We have been testing our snorkel system and came upon an issue that needs to be addressed…

As you will probably know, engines require air and fuel to be as clean as possible.

So when we were testing the airbox, we removed it from the vehicle to fill with water to see how sealed they are…

To my surprise water started to leak on the lid, around the balancing chamber ( the funny shaped box on the back of the lid ).

I removed this with the 2 screws and the tab to find that the O ring had rolled, and was not sealing correctly….

This can happen when O rings are installed dry.

I didn’t have a replacement O ring at home so put some RTV sealant on the O ring and put it back together.

This fixed the issue…

I did notice that I had some dust on the inside of the lid around this area, which did make me suspicious that this was leaking.

Anyway as a precaution I would advise you to check this yourself just to make sure that yours has been assembled correctly.

This can be easily done by removing the lid.

You can do this as follows…

Loosen the clamp on the hose, remove the airflow sensor plug.

then loosen all the screws holding the airbox lid on.

Now gently pull the airbox lid off…..

Check the inside of the lid… this is the clean side of the filter so there should be no dust in here….

If you spot some around the inlet for the balancing chamber then you will need to seal this part.

When re-installing I recommend applying some ” never seize ” grease to all the screw threads.

This is a silver coloured grease that is used on stainless steel threads.

If you haven’t got any , don’t stress, just put some grease on the threads.
